My Post Jam Thoughts
Post Written by Lead Programmer 'Juniper' of NGS.
Thank you to everyone playing our game! It was really fun to take part in such an awesome event hosted by the GitHub Team!
Pogona came from the idea of finding a core mechanic from a theme. "Scale" can be thought of in many ways but for some reason lizards and dragons were just really cool!
I grew up playing allot of different games, Hollow Knight in my later years has been a superb favorite, I've had a more natural flow with platformers having a metroidvania nature to them and for this jam the concept of scaling up overtime played on my mind. What if you played with a scale but you found more as you played.
Pogona was born.
When developing the game it was really important to give the game a good sense of completion, albeit very buggy and full of glitches it was important to deliver a core mechanic and solid loop. This prooved challenging with the unique animations and move states the game needed to process however through allot of assistance online and perseverance we pushed through!!
Huge shout out to all the developers online providing tutorial support and game examples such as ShaunJS and others! These resources are super helpfull to pick up ideas and really go forward with them!
Massive shout out to @Appletreedev for going on a development Journey with me over the Jam creating a really awesome game, a huge effort was made on their part for the hard(but well crafted) levels and all of the amazing assets!! The art in pogona really helped the personality of the game show.
I think overall I'm super happy to explore our crazy out of scope ideas in the future, for context Pogona is set on a tropical volcanic island, so expect allot more craziness.
Thanks for an awesome Jam, explore and enjoy the Demo!
Bye... For now ;)
